BFree Foods, an Ireland-based baker operating in the free-from area, has opened its first office in the US to cater to increased demand.

The site is located in Buffalo Grove near Chicago and will house the Dublin-headquartered company’s operations, supply chain, marketing and sales functions, but not manufacturing, which is carried out by a number of local partners.

BFree Foods said it first entered the US market in 2015, around four years after the firm’s inception, but did not set up a base there at that time. In 2017, the company collaborated with e-commerce platform glutenfreemall.com to enhance distribution for its products in the country.

Its products are now carried in Costco, Safeway, Alberton’s, Walmart, Kroger and Publix stores.

“The business is growing at such a fast pace, and we are constantly working closely with our US brokers, distributors, and agency partners to get BFree on as many shelves across the US as possible,” a spokesperson told just-food.

The Irish businesses’ portfolio consists of bread, rolls, bagels, wraps and pita bread, all of which are free-from gluten, wheat, dairy, allergens, eggs, nuts and soy, while also being non-GMO, low in fat and vegan-friendly.

BFree Foods explained the move in a statement: “For the past four years, it has continued to run operations from Ireland, but the momentum of the rapidly-growing gluten-free food industry and the brand’s overwhelming success in the American market has compelled the company to invest in a permanent presence state side.”
