The terms of the deal for the factory in Cristalina in the central state of Goiás were undisclosed.

Bonduelle declined to comment when approached by Just Food.

According to the annual report for the company’s 2024-25 fiscal year – which ran to the end of June – the group has 201 staff in Brazil.

The Cristalina site was Bonduelle’s sole factory in Brazil, the report noted. The canned- and frozen-veg group first entered the country with the opening of a sales office in 1994.

Bonduelle plans to supply customers in Europe from manufacturing sites in Europe.

Stella d’Oro Alimentos had not returned requests for comment at the time of publication.

The company, based in Itápolis in eastern Brazil, markets products including condiments and canned foods.

Stella d’Oro Alimentos’ acquisition of the Bonduelle plant remains subject to review by Brazil’s competition officials.

Bonduelle does not disclose sales by geographic market, instead splitting its sales into two regions: Europe and “non-Europe”.

In the year to the end of June, Bonduelle generated sales of €2.2bn ($2.55bn), down 0.9% on 12 months earlier.

Sales from the non-European markets grew 4.4% to €849.3m, helped by growth in North America. In Europe, sales fell 3.9% to €1.35bn.

In July, Bonduelle finalised the sale of its packaged-salad business in France to French food-and-beverage company LSDH Group, a deal first announced in August last year. The assets sold accounted for around €80m in sales, Bonduelle noted in July.

In March, the company sealed the disposal of its packaged-salad arm in Germany to US group Taylor Farms, a deal also announced last August.

Last week, Bonduelle booked a 2.1% fall in first-quarter sales to €519.8m.
