Swiss food group Nestle will invest BRL163m (US$97.3m) to establish a new milk factory in Brazil.

The facility, which will be located Três Rios, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, will produce UHT and ready-to-drink products and Nestle brands, including Ninho, Alpino and Molico.

The 20,000 square metre facility will have a production capacity of 124,000 tonnes of milk products a year. The investment will also look to create over 1,000 direct and indirect new jobs.

Nestle said that it also hopes to improve the milk production in the region and, with the support of the Brazilian state and the municipality of Três Rios, the group has started to collect data to develop productivity and quality improvement initiatives.
