Dutch retailer Ahold has announced plans to sell its Brazilian supermarket chain G. Barbosa to US investment fund Acon Investments.

Following troubles arising from financial misdemeanous at its US subsidiary U. S. Foodservice, Ahold has sold off a number of its Latin American operations, including Bompreco and Hipercard.
G. Barbosa owns 32 hypermarkets and supermarkets in the Brazilian states of Sergipe and Bahia. Its 2003 turnover was R$963.6m (US$357.1m).
