CEO Rolf Stangl said SIG planned to expand the facility in two years. “Thanks to significant growth, in a further stage of expansion within just two years’ time we will be doubling the capacity to two billion carton packs,” Stangl said.

SIG said that the improved distribution of income in Brazil had resulted in “dynamic” consumer behaviour, which it claimed by food and drinks sold in aseptic packaging “very popular”.

“In the past year alone, our business in Brazil has increased by 60%. For us, that means our new factory is working at full capacity right from the start. We continue to have ambitious targets, and we want to expand much faster than the market does,” Ricardo Rodriguez, cluster head for the company’s operations in South America, said.

SIG is owned by New Zealand investment vehicle Rank Group.
