Brazilian poultry and pork processor Perdigao is in merger talks with its local competitor Eleva Alimentos.
In a joint statement, the companies said: “The market and the companies’ respective shareholders will be informed accordingly as to the corporate and operational structure to be implemented by the parties as well as other terms and conditions of the operation as soon as these have been finalised.”
Perdigao, which is Brazil’s second largest poultry and pork producer in Brazil, was at one stage negotiating a possible merger with market leader Sadia but opted to remain an independent company.
In addition to producing poultry and pork products, Eleva is also involved in the dairy sector and markets the Elege milk brand.
