The company said on Friday (24 April) that discussions had “recommenced” with a view to the “feasibility of an association” between both sides.

“We wish to notify that no document of a legal nature has been signed preliminary to this new round of discussions. We would add that no time frame has been set for concluding these discussions and such should not be understood by the market as representing any kind of commitment on the part Perdigão in relation to the finalisation of the association between the companies,” the company said.

Perdigão said it will make an “appropriate and immediate” announcement to the market on any “definitive fact” arising out of the discussions.

Sadia reported losses of BRL2.5bn (US$1.14bn) in 2008 while Perdigao reported a profit of BRL54.4m, a drop of 83% compared to 2007.
