Swiss giant Nestlé had some good news in Brazil last week, when it announced it had reclaimed market leadership in the chilled products category from French rival Danone, which had crept ahead after its purchase of the Paulista dairy firm in December of 2000.

Nestlé also improved its ranking in the chocolate confectionery category, where it is currently head to head with local heavyweight Lacta, which had improved its performance considerably after being purchased by Philip Morris, the owner of Kraft Foods. According to an article in Gazeta Mercantil, Nestlé responded to pressure from Danone and Lacta by increasing its points of sale and improving its positioning.
