Canadian dairy co-operative Agropur has acquired Nova Scotia-based Cook’s Dairy for an undisclosed sum.
Agropur said the move strengthens its presence in the Atlantic region of Canada and expands its product offering. “The Cook’s Dairy acquisition… furthers our strategy to give us a greater reach in this region, as well as deepens our market presence and product variety,” Agropur CEO Robert Coallier said.
Cook’s Dairy produces 2.7m litres of fluid milk and other dairy products each year. Cook’s is the “leading brand of milk” in Yarmouth, Digby, and Shelburne counties, Agropur said.
The move follows Agropur’s recent merger with Atlantic dairy cooperative Farmers Dairy. At the time Agropur unveiled the merger plan, the group argued consolidation in the Canadian dairy sector would help build a “sustainable future” for the country’s dairy farmers.
In a separate announcement, Agropur confirmed it will shed a number of jobs from its operations in Atlantic Canada as it integrates the Farmers Dairy business.
