Agropur’s fine cheese division has opened a Boursin production line as part of the Canadian dairy-cop’s contract with the brand’s owner, French dairy giant Groupe Bel.

Bel transferred production of the formerly imported cheese to Canada to “optimise its potential”, Agropur said today (13 December). The transfer, however required the expansion of Agropur’s Saint-Hyacinthe plant.

The “multi-million dollar” investment, shared between the two companies, is expected to lead to the creation of a dozen jobs. Production will begin next month.

Agropur says the partnership will help “increase Boursin’s availability and sales, and meet market needs more efficiently”.

Agropur and Bel have been business partners for around 20 years in Canada. Bel’s other international brands, The Laughing Cow and Mini Babybel, have experienced strong growth in the country as a result of the partnership, Agropur said.
