French canned vegetable supplier Bonduelle has said damage to a plant in Canada is “considerable” after a fire broke out on Thursday night.

While no injuries or fatalities were reported, the firm said it will be “very difficult” for the facility in Tecumseh in Ontario “to operate for the current production campaign”.

The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed. Bonduelle said an investigation was planned. The length of the delay to production and plans to restart output will only be able to be determined after detailed examination of the damage to the plant. 

The site produces lines sold under the Green Giant brand through a licencing deal with General Mills.
