The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning consumers who suffer from phenylketonuria (PKU) disease not to consume Pepsi brand cola as described below since this product contains aspartame that is not declared on the label.


The affected product is sold in a 600 ml plastic bottle with a UPC 0 6994909. This product can be identified by the product codes embossed on the upper portion of the plastic bottle. The first line of coding appears as 02 MA 13. The second line of coding begins with OH2037 followed by a series of five digits that represent the time of manufacturing. Only those codes ending with 05305 through to 07155 are affected by this recall.


Pepsi Cola Canada Ltd. is voluntarily recalling the product from the marketplace, where it was distributed in Ontario only.


There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
