Foodservice provider the Compass Group announced that its Canadian business has agreed to acquire the health services business of Cara Operations Ltd, allowing Compass Group to leverage growth in the healthcare and senior dining markets.
The transaction, subject to typical pre-closing matters, is expected to close on 28 April 2002.
In making this announcement, Jack MacDonald, CEO of Compass Group Canada said: “We are increasing our presence in healthcare dining as we believe it to be a significant growth market in Canada. As well it is consistent with the direction we are following in the US with the recent acquisition of Morrison Management Specialists and Crothall Services Group.
“We consider Cara’s health services division to be a quality leader in the industry and believe that adding it to our current business will allow us to achieve leadership in that sector.”
Mike Masse, VP of Morrison, Compass Group’s healthcare business in Canada, added: “In today’s environment, success depends on being a leader in the marketplace. The addition of Cara’s healthcare business is a perfect strategic fit with our organisation.”
