Canadian convenience store operator Alimentation Couche-Tard said it has bought control of the Dunkin’ Donuts brand in Quebec and plans to doubled the number of outlets there within five years.

Financial terms of the deal with UK food and drinks giant Allied Domecq, owner of Dunkin’ Donuts, were not disclosed.

Couche-Tard, which already owned ten Dunkin’ Donuts outlets in Quebec, said it now owns the “master licensee rights”, enabling its to decide where new stores are opened and what new products will be introduced, reported Reuters.

Dunkin’ Donuts has 104 outlets in Quebec, while the US-owned Tim Hortons chain has 240 doughnut and coffee stores. US doughnut retailer Krispy Kreme opened its first Quebec outlet in May, and has since opened at least two more.
