Danone has said it plans to invest C$40m (US$38.5m) in expanding production of Oikos Greek yoghurt at its facility in Boucherville in Quebec.

The company said it has purchased “leading-edge precision equipment” to give “great versatility” to manufacturing and packaging.

“This investment… reasserts [Danone’s] leadership as the country’s largest yoghurt producer,” said Nick Krzyzaniak, president and CEO of Danone in Canada. “Oikos, our Greek yoghurt brand, is proof of our desire to give consumers products that are both healthy and delicious: this is why Danone is investing in this star product, this new nutritional trend.”

The move will create ten additional jobs at the plant, Danone said. The investment is supported by Investissement Quebec, which is providing a C$5m interest-free loan, Danone added.
