OTTAWA, Nov. 27 /CNW/ – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning consumers not to consume Clic brand canned Spears of Green Asparagus as it may contain dangerous bacteria. These products may have been underprocessed and there is a risk for the presence of Clostridium botulinum bacteria.


The affected product is sold in 341 ml cans with the UPC 0 58504 80234 7. The affected product is identified with codes K9/20010 522 AG, K9/20010 524 AG or K9/20010 526 AG. This product is distributed in Quebec and Ontario.


Botulism is a life-threatening illness and initial symptoms are generally nausea and vomiting followed by blurred/double vision, difficulty in speaking, swallowing, general fatigue, lack of muscle coordination and respiratory impairment. Food contaminated with C. botulinum may not look or smell spoiled. Consumers should dispose of remaining product immediately. The products should not be consumed by humans or animals. There have been no illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.


Clic Import Export Inc., Laval (Quebec) is voluntarily recalling this product. This product has been distributed in Quebec and Ontario.


CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of this recall.
