US food group J.M. Smucker has decided to close two plants in Canada.
The company said yesterday (28 September) that its pickle and condiments sites in Dunnville and Delhi Township in Ontario will close by the end of 2011. The moves will lead to 150 jobs being cut.

The closures are expected to save J.M. Smucker US$8m a year, excluding one-time costs, from fiscal 2013. The company will, however, incur restructuring charges of US$45m over a two-year period.
J.M. Smucker, which is already closing four other plants across North America, said the fresh closures would “address capacity under-utilisation in its Canadian pickle and condiments operations and improve its overall cost structure”.
