Canadian retailer Loblaw said today (7 October) that it has reached a “tentative” agreement with the union representing striking workers in Alberta.
Around 8,500 Loblaw employees in Alberta went on strike yesterday as the company sought to negotiate changes to contractual terms.

An agreement is understood to have been reached in the early hours of the morning. Union members will be balloted on the new contract tomorrow.
UFCW Canada Local 401 has indicated that it will advise its members to accept the deal.
“The new agreement will present employees with a number of significant improvements over and above the company’s last offer,” the union said in a posting on Facebook, without giving details.
Previously, Loblaw said that it hoped to reach an agreement that allowed for a “sustainable business model” as well as recognising the need “to support our colleagues and serve our customers”.
