Canadian grocery retailer Longo Brothers Fruit Markets has announced the acquisition of online retailer Grocery Gateway.
Family-run Longo’s began to offer online grocery ordering for customers in Ontario through a partnership with Grocery Gateway in 1999.
“A key initiative in our strategic plan for 2004 was the expansion of our business by enabling customers to shop online directly with Longo’s. The acquisition of Grocery Gateway’s business accelerates these plans and allows us to bring the Longo’s experience to the doorsteps of customers right across the Greater Toronto Area,” said Anthony Longo, president and CEO of Longo’s.
Under the terms of the transaction, Longo’s said it will begin to operate the Grocery Gateway business immediately, and will ultimately acquire Grocery Gateway’s business.
