According to a report in the Globe and Mail, a Canadian government laboratory, the National Research Council, and a private agribusiness company, DowAgroSciences Canada, are working to introduce a gene that produces an antibody preventing O157 from multiplying into something cows naturally eat, such as corn.
The antibody works by enveloping the 0157 and preventing it attaching itself to the wall of a cow’s gut.
Canadian attention has been heavily focused on the dangers of E. coli since the bacteria killed seven citizens and rendered thousands sick in Ontario around two years ago.
