The deal will see Cavendish, part of the Irving Group, take control of the Omstead appetiser brands and processing equipment. The business will continue to operate out of the former Omstead plant in Wheatley, Ontario.

Omstead president Bill Stafford said the divesture would allow it to focus on the “continued development” of its national fruit business.

“We will now focus our efforts on the continued development of our national fruit business. The frozen fruit category is experiencing tremendous growth in both the retail and food service channels and as a national leader in the category, Omstead is well positioned to benefit,” he said.

The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
