Canadian dairy processor Saputo is investigating the cause of a listeria contamination that led to it recalling several lots of cheese from a Quebec plant.

The company said on Friday (26 November) that the product was distributed in Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. No illnesses have been reported.

Cheese with a best before date of 5 May 2011 has been voluntarily recalled.

Shares in Saputo were down 1.6% to C$37.21 a share at 12:03 EST today.
