SunOpta, which operates in the natural and organic food sector, has announced that its SunOpta Global Organic Ingredients (SGOI) division has secured a raft of supply deals, primarily in Central America.

The Canadian company said the agreements would expand both its global organic supply capabilities and its supply of private-label and branded frozen food products to its growing customer base.


SunOpta said SGOI had acquired a number of existing supplier and customer relationships, the rights to the Pure Nature Organics frozen fruit and vegetable brand, and had entered into an ongoing brokerage and consulting services agreement.


It estimated that this business will generate incremental profitable revenues of approximately US$5.0m to $7.0m in the first year, and continue to grow in following years as the products are further developed and incremental supply becomes available.


“This transaction further expands SunOpta’s global organic supply capabilities and also expands the company’s supply of branded and private label organic food products, both of which are key to our continued strategic growth plans,” said SunOpta president and CEO Steve Bromley.
