The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has warned that frozen cranberry crème brûlée produced by Sélection du Pâtissier may be contaminated with Staphylococcus toxin. More than 190 illnesses associated with consumption of this product have been reported.

The Staphylococcus toxin is produced by Staphylococcus bacteria. It is not easily destroyed at normal cooking temperatures. Common symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fever. In severe cases, headache, muscle cramping and changes in blood pressure and pulse rate may occur.


Sélection du Pâtissier frozen Cranberry crème brûlée slab bearing item number 00208 and UPC 1 06 22267 00208 4 is thought to be contaminated and is subject to a voluntary recall.


The product is known to have been distributed in Quebec, but may have been distributed nationally.
