Clearly Canadian Brands is set to buy organic jam business Crofters Food, it was announced today (6 August).
The deal, for an undisclosed sum, will double the size of Clearly, the Canadian group said.
The food and beverage group has been busy building its food business in recent months with acquisitions in baby food and kosher meat.
Last month, the company secured financing and hired an M&A specialist as part of its strategy to expand.
CEO Bobby Genovese said the “incredibly strong brand name” of Crofters Organics would boost the company’s standing with retailers in the US.

By GlobalDataGenovese added that, with the organic sector in North America consolidating, Clearly needed to act quickly to expand. “There is a short window of opportunity while this emerging market sector quickly transforms from small entrepreneurs to major food conglomerates, we intend to capitalise on this unique market opportunity by adding tremendous product lines,” he said.
