Canadian retailer Alimentation Couche-Tard has announced it might be interested in purchasing stores owned by North Carolina-based Swifty Serve, which has recently said it will seek bankruptcy protection.

Swifty Serve had previously reduced its number of stores in the south-eastern states from 560 to 450 in a bid to survive, but is now facing bankruptcy, reported the Toronto Star.


Couche-Tard, which is Canada’s largest convenience store chain, with 1719 stores, expanded to the US last year with the acquisition of 225 Bigfoot stores. The company recently purchased 287 stores in the US Midwest from bankrupt chain Dairy Mart.
