ADP Direct Poultry, a Canadian supplier to the retail and foodservice channels, has snapped up local processor and slaughter house Cami International Poultry.

The deal will see most of Cami’s 55 employees retained and more hires in the pipeline amid a planned expansion of the company’s single facility in Welland. Some sales and accounting functions will be consolidated, ADP said. The two parties, both based in Ontario, have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

ADP owns the brands Chef’s Kitchen, Simple Path and Blue Goose, and also serves contract manufacturers. It has three production sites in Ontario.

Cami is described by ADP as a “primary poultry processor” in Ontario producing a “premium air chilled poultry product”, with “significant capacity for growth”.

Augo Pinho, the president and CEO of ADP, said: “I’ve believed for years that vertical integration was critical to the company’s long-term aspirations. Cami’s business operations end where ADP’s further poultry processing operations begin, so there isn’t overlap between the two businesses. This acquisition gives ADP a consistent supply of poultry with the size and specification required by ADP customers.”

He added: “ADP’s strategic plan is focused on organic growth, vertical integration, diversification, and branded products.”
