Canada’s Romana Food Brands is bringing in Morrie Fogelbaum as chairman and chief executive to replace president and CEO John Pedder, who will resign with immediate effect.

Following Romana Food’s November acquisition of Montreal-based Pasta Romana, its board of directors elected to appoint Fogelbaum to take the company to the “next level”.

Pasta Romana makes fresh pasta, Italian sauces and pesto under its own name and private label, as well as gluten-free products.

In a statement today (6 December), Romana Food said: “The board of directors, as part of its strategy to formulate, produce and market its authentic Italian `Pasta Romana’ selections, and privately-branded products, will be diligently collaborating and working closely with Mr. Fogelbaum to realize the company’s short-term goal of increasing efficiencies and focusing corporate efforts on bringing sales into the $100m range within a relatively short period of time.”

A figure for current earnings was not provided.

Fogelbaum has held positions in retail, real estate, manufacturing, automotive and healthcare, in both the private and public sectors.
