Challenges in the Swedish market have affected Candyking’s profits in the first nine months of the year.

For the period to the end of September, Candyking reported a loss of SEK69.2m, compared with a loss of SEK33.8m a year earlier.

One-off items, including the effects of currency future contracts and losses from discontinued operations in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, hit Candyking’s bottom line.

Underlying EBIT, which excluded the one-off costs, declined 32.9% to SEK47.9m amid a “weak performance” in Sweden and “adverse” currency movements, Candyking said.

Candyking said its net sales in Sweden fell 8%. Group sales, however, increased 2.3% to SEK1.32bn.

For the third quarter, Candyking reported a loss of SEK15.6m, compared to break-even a year earlier. Underlying EBIT dropped 26.2% to SEK18.6m.
