According to the website of privately-owned Zakladami Miesnymi Silesia, the company is one of the three largest meat processors in Poland, employing 1,200 staff.

The company’s plant in the city of Katowice runs to 80,000 square metres. It packs pork, beef and poultry products, focusing on “economy” products. Its range includes cold meats, sirloins, sausages for sandwiches, luncheon meats and frankfurters.

The deal is another move in the consolidation of Poland’s meat industry. In 2015, Cedrob acquired a majority stake in Polish red-meat processor PKM Duda, now known as Gobarto.

Cedrob, set up in 1991, employs more than 6,300 staff. This week, the Polska Agencja Prasowa news agency reported Cedrob’s annual sales are this year expected to be more than PLN6bn (US$1.67bn).
