CHILE: Jumbo may seek acquisition of Ahold’s Santa Isabel
Chile’s third-largest supermarket chain Jumbo is reported to be interested in buying the 73 Santa Isabel supermarkets owned by Dutch retail giant Ahold.
Chile’s third-largest supermarket chain Jumbo is reported to be interested in buying the 73 Santa Isabel supermarkets owned by Dutch retail giant Ahold.
At the end of 2002, executives from Jumbo met with Ahold executives to discuss Jumbo’s interest in Ahold’s Chilean supermarket operations, Dow Jones News reported, citing Chilean newspaper El Mercurio.
Ahold reportedly expressed interest in the idea, but was focused on first restructuring Santa Isabel, of which Ahold only recently took 100% control.
