The France-based retailer which came to the Chinese market later than other international giants such as Carrefour and Metro, held a procurement fair in the Tianjin Development Zone yesterday (22 March), Asia Pulse reports. This is the first time Auchan has looked to suppliers in the north of China, as in the past the company had primarily dealt with suppliers from the southern regions.


Chinese procurement, procurement official Francois Loiselle said, is intended for various export markets, including Europe.


In 2005, Auchan bought EUR250m (US$301.3) worth of goods from China. It expects this figure to reach EUR500m by 2008.
