Beijing has said that it will impose anti-dumping duties of up to 105.4% on poultry imports from the US.

The Ministry of Commerce of China (MOFCOM) released its preliminary ruling in its anti-dumping investigation into US chicken imports today (8 February).

The targeted importers include Pilgrim’s Pride and Tyson Foods, who will be required to pay 80.5% and 43.1% respectively in preliminary duties.

MOFCOM said that it reached this decision after it found imports of US broiler-chicken products were being sold at below-market prices, hurting local suppliers.

“Investigations showed the US producers had dumped chicken products on the Chinese market causing substantial damage to China’s domestic industry,” the Ministry said.

MOFCOM said that US chicken producers will be required to “place deposits at Chinese customs” from Saturday (13 February).
