A spokesperson for French retail giant Carrefour has confirmed to just-food that it will cease using the Champion brand in China by the end of June.


Citing intense competition in this market, Carrefour has said it will hand the management of four of the eight Champion supermarkets located in Beijing to its local business partner, Beijing Shoulian Commercial Group Co. The French retailer has added that it is in talks with unnamed market players to convert the remaining four outlets into local supermarkets.


Carrefour will instead focus on the hypermarket business and discount stores in the Chinese market.
