The Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation [MOFTEC], and the State Administration of Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine have jointly issued a circular banning the importation of feed products of animal origin from European Union [EU] countries as of 1 January 2001. The move by the Chinese government is a cautionary move to prevent the spread of such epidemics as the ‘Mad Cow Disease’ and other animal related diseases getting into the food chain.
