French retail giant Carrefour has said that it sourced US$1.6bn worth of goods from China last year, an increase of 27% from 2001.

Carrefour said its global sourcing office based in Shanghai and nine branches in other Chinese cities have been working closely with Chinese manufacturers.

The goods that the company sourced from China were for its operations both in China and overseas, reported Dow Jones International News.

Carrefour currently operates 36 stores in 20 cities in China.
