COFCO, China’s top state-owned grain trading firm, is expected to export at least 1.2 million tonnes of wheat, five million tonnes of corn and 1.7 million tonnes of rice this year, reported Reuters, citing the China Daily.
This compares to 700,000 tonnes of wheat, 3.95 million tonnes of corn and 1.66 million tonnes of rice that COFCO exported last year.
Transportation has been complicated due to disinfection requirements introduced to combat the spread of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS. Business operations have reportedly returned to normal since the end of May and COFCO has been communicating with local governments to ensure that SARS does not affect domestic grain trade.
