“Since the introduction of Oreo and Chips Ahoy! to China in 1996, the country has become our second-largest market for these brands globally, after the United States, due to our consistent focus on quality, innovation and marketing,” Shawn Warren, president of Mondelez’s Kraft Foods China division, said.

The project, which Mondelez said would create 340 new jobs, is expected to be complete next August.

Mondelez chairman and CEO Irene Rosenfeld last month claimed China was the company’s “single, most important opportunity”. She told investors at the Citi 2013 Global Consumer Conference the company would keep “ploughing money” into its Oreo business in China.
