The company will increase its store base from the 100 7-Eleven outlets it currently operates to over 500 by fiscal 2014.
“Seven & i could grow its Chinese business by fivefold, with our convenience store business driving such an expansion,” said Seven and I chairman Toshifumi Suzuki.
The company said it plans to boost its Chinese sales to an annual JPY400bn (US$4.5bn) by fiscal 2014, from about JPY100bn now.
7-Eleven Japan opened its first Chinese outlet in Beijing in 2004. The chain expanded into Shanghai this April under a franchise contract with a Taiwanese retailer, then into Tianjin this September.
