China’s largest instant noodle manufacturer, Tingyi, has said that it plans to enter the Taiwanese market through the investment of around US$2-3m in a new noodle production line there.

Tingyi, which also makes beverages and rice crackers, said it decided on the production line because instant noodles are not permitted to be imported to Taiwan directly from China. The company is to lease facilities from Wei-Chuan Foods, in which Tingyi has a 20% stake, for the production of the noodles.

Tingyi has a 38.5% share of the instant noodle market in China and is keen to make its mark in Taiwan, reported Reuters.
