Chinese meat processor Zhongpin is to increase its prepared meats production capacity by 114% to 54,000 metric tonnes by next September.
Zhongpin said it plans to add the additional capacity at its main production facility in Zhongpin Industrial Park, located in Changge City, Henan Province.
The company is investing some US$13.2m in the expansion programme. Construction is due to begin in the first quarter of 2008, with the production lines scheduled to be operational by September 2008.
Xianfu Zhu, Zhongpin’s chairman, president and CEO, said the company aimed to optimise its product mix and improve its gross margins. “We also plan to implement a creative marketing campaign and deepen our distribution channels to increase market penetration,” he added. “We believe the combination of new products and additional capacity should enhance margins for our prepared meat product lines in the future.”
Zhongpin specialises in pork products, and is also a processor of fruits and vegetables. In addition to marketing its products widely in China, the company exports to EU countries, Russia, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea.
