Goody Good Stuff, the UK-based free-from confectioner owned by Cloetta, has secured listings at three major US retailers.

Target Corp., Walgreens and CVS are to sell a range of products from the confectioner, which produces vegetarian, dairy-free and nut-free candy.

Goody Good Stuff has been exporting to speciality retailers across the Atlantic, including The Fresh Market, for three years.

However, American Melissa Burton, who founded Goody Good Stuff in the UK in 2010, said the new listings showed demand for free-from confectionery was coming from more mainstream consumers.

“This shows [retailers] are starting to recognise their mass-market consumer is demanding this kind of product,” Burton told just-food today (2 January).

Cloetta acquired Goody Good Stuff last May for an undisclosed sum. Burton said Cloetta’s ownership had given Goody Good Stuff the production and financial resources to expand in the US.

“The amount of production for this first shipment is substantial,” Burton said, adding the lines set to go on sale at the three US retailers are made at Cloetta sites across Europe.

Goody Good Stuff products are on sale in 33 countries, although Burton said the size of its export markets vary.

She said the focus for the business in 2015 would be to build on some of its faster-growing markets.

“We’re going to be focusing on growing some of the high-growth opportunity markets we are currently in – the US, the Middle East and China,” Burton said.

When Cloetta acquired Goody Good Stuff, it said the business had generated sales of around SEK10m (US$1.1m) in 2012. Burton would not disclose the unit’s sales in 2014, pointing to Cloetta’s status as a listed company.
