ConAgra Foods is to shut a biscuit factory in the US state of Wisconsin amid falling demand.

The site in Ripon makes soft-bake and enrobed biscuits. It manufactures biscuits sold under the Bakery Fresh and Petri but "primarily" produces own-label lines, a spokesperson said. It employs around 300 staff.

The facility is one of two ConAgra factories in Ripon. The other plant manufacturers wafers but will remain open.

"The decision was based on a need to operate our overall plant network as effectively and efficiently as possible," the spokesperson said. "The declining demand and overall operating cost structure for the facility no longer allow us to meet the needs of the business. Some products will be discontinued and some of the cookies will be made in a different ConAgra Foods plant."

The spokesperson added ConAgra will continue to make Bakery Fresh and Petri biscuits after the factory closes.
