Dutch cheese producer Cono Kaasmakers is acquiring local herb butter producer Jacques’ Kruidenboter. 

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Jacques’ Kruidenboter specialises in herb butter, white cheese, and seasonings.

In a statement, Cono Kaasmakers said it was “taking a significant step in further strengthening its position in the dairy category”.

It also noted: “The addition of the butter category is seen as a valuable addition to the existing range of premium cheeses.

Netherlands-based Cono Kaasmakers specialises in cheese, with some of its brands including Beemster and ‘t Kaas Lokaal.

Jerry Griep, managing director of Cono Kaasmakers, said: “In a challenging market, collaboration is the key to progress.

“With this acquisition, we are bringing together two strong players, combining knowledge and passion – and staying true to who we are.” 

Based in Den Helder, in the North Holland province, Jacques’ Kruidenboter has a clutch of brands, including its namesake label, plus Beurre Trèfle and Solataki.  

It sells to supermarkets, the food service sector, and the food industry, both domestically and internationally.  

Jacques’ Kruidenboter also develops products for several private label brands.

Following the acquisition, Jacques’ Kruidenboter’s factory in Den Helder will continue to operate without any immediate changes to staff or production processes, Cono Kaasmakers said.  

It added the deal offers “continuity and new growth opportunities” for Jacques Kruidenboter. 

Jacques’ Kruidenboter founder Wim van der Linden said Cono “feels like a natural successor. Our people, customers and partners are a good fit”. 

Established in 1901 by North Holland dairy farmers, Cono Kaasmakers is a cooperative with over 400 dairy farmer members.  

It runs a cheese factory in the Beemster region, north of Amsterdam.

As well as the Netherlands, the company’s products are also sold in other European nations such as Belgium, Germany and Scandinavia. 

Outside Europe, Cono Kaasmakers is also available in Chile and Australia.
