At SIAL China earlier this month, the company signed a co-operation agreement with Chinese upmarket retailer Sinodis for a range of four premium quality cooked ham products. These will go on sale from July.

"Test groups organised by the brand (in China) revealed consumers had responded very positively to the texture and taste of our products," Brocéliande's director of marketing, Thierry du Teilleul, said.

Cooperl is looking to sell 50 tonnes of product in China this year, rising to 200 tonnes in 2016. Pork is the premier meat consumed by the Chinese – 39 kilos per inhabitant annually.
