A class action lawsuit brought against US firm National Beef looks set to be settled, according to court filings.

A filing from the US District Court of Kansas seeks court approval of a proposed deal of US$350,000, which includes fees to resolve the costs associated with the lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed by two former employees on behalf of 2,000 alleging they were underpaid with particular regard to overtime. The lawsuit claims employees had been systematically underpaid for the time it takes to remove and put on protective gear during unpaid meal breaks, walking to and from production lines, waiting in line for equipment, waiting in line to clean equipment and cleaning equipment. Some 480 employees joined the class action.

National Beef did not respond to just-food’s request for comment.
