Thailand’s Charoen Pokphand Foods (CPF) is forming a joint venture with Japan’s NH Foods for the supply of processed pork products in Asia.

CPF said in a stock exchange filing today (29 October) that the JV will develop and produce pork-related products for sale in Thailand and elsewhere in Asia, with a focus on Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The partnership with the Japanese business will be conducted through CPF’s fully owned subsidiary CPF Food and Beverage (CPFFB) and will be named CPF NH Foods.

The Thai side will be the majority owner of the venture with 51%. It will be set up with Bt1.8bn ($55.7m) in capital with an initial outlay of Bt300m.

CPFFB will contribute Bt918m and NH Foods Bt882m with completion scheduled for November.

“This joint venture represents a strategic collaboration that combines CPF Group’s strengths in distribution networks and raw material sourcing with expertise in product development and manufacturing standards of NH Foods,” CPF’s filing read.

“It also serves to expand CPF’s processed food market into Japan and other Asian countries, with a shared goal of promoting diverse food cultures in both Thailand and Japan.”
