Croatian salami specialist PIK Vrbovec is targeting the Polish market in its latest export drive.

It has signed a deal with Polish retail chain Biedronka, which has 722 retail outlets in the country, Biedronka, part of the Portuguese group Jeronimo Martinis Group, will now stock the Croatian firm’s meat products on its shelves.

PIK Vrbovec, which has been part of the Agrokor group since 2005, exports its products to more than 15 countries in the European Union. Its most important markets in Europe are Italy, Romania, Sweden and Hungary.

Its products include dry salami with walnuts and dry salami with truffles as well as various types of ham.

Speaking about the Polish deal, Tihana Vujcic, director of marketing of PIK Vrbovec, said: “The Polish market, with as many as 38m people, is a huge export potential for Croatian products. We are delighted that Biedronka has recognised the quality and strength of PIK Vrbovac and the fact that we are able to meet the extremely high standards required.”

Over the past few years, PIK Vrbovac’s business has increasingly focused on exports. In 2016 a fifth of its sales were in foreign markets.
