Cordero told Trabajadores magazine yesterday [Monday] that more than half of the refineries will close. The 71 most efficient will continue to operate, and 14 will be converted to produce molasses.
Cuba’s sugar industry has been steadily declining for years. The reform programme will continue through 2004.
