The European Commission has set a deadline of 25 April for its inquiry into the EUR100m (US$133m) acquisition by the German retail group Rewe AG of Czech retailer Delvita from Belgian supermarket group Delhaize SA.

Rewe already operates Billa supermarkets and Penny Market discount stores in the Czech Republic, and it also owns the Delvita chain in Slovakia.
Rewe announced that it was buying Delvita in November 2006. The Czech retail chain made an operating loss of EUR1.5m in 2005 on sales of EUR282.2m.
